DJI SDR Transmission 2: What Is Confirmed, and What It Changes for Small Crews

DJI showed the SDR Transmission 2 at IBC in Amsterdam last week, and it is the first wireless video link in this price class to claim DCI 4K at 60fps in 10-bit HDR. If you shoot corporate work, events or multicamera live production, that is the headline — but the more useful change is smaller and more boring: every unit in the system is both a transmitter and a receiver.
One caveat before the specs. DJI has said full product details and global availability will be published by 17 September 2026, so at the time of writing some numbers are confirmed and some are not. We have marked which is which rather than filling the gaps, and we will update this post once the documentation lands.
What wireless video costs you today
Until recently the choice was uncomfortable. Broadcast-grade systems — Teradek and the like — are reliable and expensive enough that a two-camera set is a serious capital decision. The affordable tier runs over ordinary 2.4/5 GHz Wi-Fi bands, which is fine in an empty studio and much less fine in a hotel ballroom with four hundred phones in it.
DJI's angle with SDR (software-defined radio) was to use a modulation scheme built for penetration and interference rejection rather than for throughput on a clean band. The first-generation SDR Transmission, launched in 2024, made that trade visible: only 1080p60 at up to 20 Mbps, but it held a picture through walls and crowds that Wi-Fi systems dropped.
What is confirmed about the second generation
From DJI's IBC showing and the launch listings that have gone up so far:
- DCI 4K at 60fps, 10-bit HDR, encoded in H.265 at a maximum bitrate of 50 Mbps. The 4K60 HDR path runs over the USB-C port as HDMI or DP — worth noting when you plan cabling.
- Range rated at 4 km, up from 3 km (FCC) on the first generation.
- Every unit switches between transmit and receive with a physical switch on the body, which reboots the unit into the chosen role.
- Up to eight receivers from one transmitter, with upstream control from each receiver, and up to five transmitters and forty receivers coexisting in one location.
- About 136 g per unit, down from 145 g, with one HDMI input and two USB-C ports on the body itself.
- An expansion board carries SDI and passes ARRI and RED camera metadata through to the monitor.
- DJI describes improved stability, interference resistance and signal penetration over the first generation, without published figures behind those words.
What is not confirmed yet
The numbers circulating in early hands-on videos that we could not trace to DJI: end-to-end latency at 4K (the first generation is rated 35 ms at 1080p excluding camera and display, 80 ms with them), the naming and behaviour of the automatic channel selection, pairing-security details, and which Ronin gimbals and DJI cameras the system controls. Treat all of that as unconfirmed until the 17 September documentation.
Pricing is in the same position. The DJI Store in Hong Kong lists the unit at HK$2,399, the combo at HK$4,099 and the expansion kit at HK$1,159. Indian pricing and availability had not been announced when this went up, and we would rather leave the number out than convert a Hong Kong figure and call it a price.
The transceiver switch matters more than 4K
Most coverage leads with the resolution. On a working set, the switch is the bigger change.
Traditional kits ship dedicated transmitters and receivers, so you have to guess the ratio before the job. Guess wrong — a second operator joins, a client wants their own monitor, one unit dies — and you have hardware in the case that cannot do the job in front of you. Every SDR Transmission 2 unit can be either, so a two-pack is a 1+1, and a four-pack can be 1+3 for a director-and-clients setup in the morning and 2+2 for a two-camera shoot in the afternoon.
For a rental house, that halves the SKUs to stock and track. For a small crew growing into multicamera work, it means the units bought this year are not the wrong units next year.

How it compares to the obvious alternatives
The two systems a crew at this budget actually cross-shops are the Hollyland Pyro S and the Accsoon CineView 2 SDI. Published figures only — we have left cells empty where the manufacturer does not state a number rather than guess one.

Two honest observations about that table. The range figures are not measured the same way — DJI quotes an open-field rating that no ballroom will ever give you, and the Hollyland and Accsoon numbers are line-of-sight too. Treat them as a ranking, not a promise. And a 4K60 10-bit feed at 50 Mbps is genuinely a different product category from a 1080p60 monitoring link; whether you need it depends entirely on who is looking at the monitor.
Who should care
If a client or director watches your feed and makes decisions from it, the 10-bit 4K path is the argument. Judging focus on a 4K sensor from a 1080p monitoring feed is guesswork, and a client assessing a log-to-LUT look on a compressed 8-bit link is assessing the link, not the grade.
If you shoot weddings and events, the radio matters more than the resolution. A venue full of phones is the environment that breaks Wi-Fi-based systems, and penetration through walls and bodies is what SDR was built for.
If you are a solo operator who occasionally staffs up, the transceiver switch is the reason to look. You can buy two units now and scale to a multicamera, multi-monitor configuration later without retiring anything.
If you are in the United States, note that the current DJI customs situation has kept this product out of the US market — worth checking before you plan around it.
Our take
The first-generation SDR Transmission solved reliability and left resolution on the table. The second generation appears to close that gap while removing the inventory guesswork that makes small-crew wireless annoying to own.
We would still wait for the 17 September documentation before committing budget — latency at 4K is the number that decides whether this is a monitoring link or a focus-pulling link, and it is precisely the number DJI has not published. When it lands, we will update this post with it.
