The Best Studio Cameras in India (2026)

18 August 2026 · Athul Prakash

"Studio camera" means two very different things. In broadcast it means a large box camera on a pedestal with a fibre link back to a gallery. For almost everyone reading this in India, it means: the cameras that live permanently in a room and point at people talking.

This guide is about the second one — podcast sets, interview rooms, in-house content studios.

What makes a good permanent studio camera

It can stay on. A camera in a studio gets switched on in the morning and off at night. Thermal behaviour and mains power matter more than burst performance.

It looks the same as the one next to it. Two cameras of the same model, same settings, same lens family. Matching two different bodies in the grade is a recurring tax on every edit.

It can be controlled without being touched. Once a camera is framed and locked, the operator should adjust it from the desk. Cameras with proper remote control save a studio hours a week.

Clean output, permanently connected. SDI where possible. In a permanent install, run good cable once and stop thinking about it.

Autofocus you can trust or focus you can lock. For a two-person interview at a fixed distance, locked manual focus is often more reliable than any autofocus system.

The India considerations

A studio is the one place to spend on SDI. You install the cable once. Do it properly and every future problem is somebody else's.

Standardise on a serviceable brand. A studio with four bodies has four times the exposure to a thin service network. This is the argument for Sony or Blackmagic in India over a brand with better specs and no local repair path.

Buy identical bodies at the same time. Sensor and firmware revisions drift. Two bodies bought a year apart may not match as precisely as two bought together.

The picks

Camera Best for Notes
Blackmagic Studio Camera 4K Pro G2 Purpose-built studio work Tally, talkback, PoE, ATEM integration
Sony FX30 Studio + everything else Fan-cooled, full-size HDMI, widest service
Panasonic AW-UE4 (PTZ) The unattended wide Remote framing, no operator

Purpose-built — Blackmagic Studio Camera 4K Pro G2

Designed for exactly this: a big viewfinder, tally light, talkback, and full integration with an ATEM so one person at the desk controls framing, colour and cuts. If you are building a room that will be used weekly, this is the category-correct answer and Blackmagic's Indian support is genuine.

The versatile choice — Sony FX30

Covered at length in the mirrorless guide. In a studio it wins when the same bodies also have to leave the room and cover events — which, for a small Indian production company, they almost always do.

The unattended wide — Panasonic AW-UE4

A cheap wide PTZ mounted high, framed once, driven from the desk. Not the hero camera; the one that means nobody has to stand behind a tripod for the wide shot.

What we would actually buy

A dedicated podcast room used weekly. Two or three Blackmagic Studio Cameras into an ATEM, SDI, mains, tally. One operator runs the whole show from the desk.

A studio whose cameras also do event work. FX30s. Accept slightly worse studio ergonomics for a kit that earns money outside the room.

A budget in-house content room. Two mirrorless bodies on locked framing plus a PTZ wide.

Before you buy: an India checklist

  • Install SDI properly the first time. Retrofitting cable into a finished room costs more than the cable.
  • Buy identical bodies together.
  • Budget for mains power to every camera position — not batteries, not adapters hanging off a stand.
  • Pick a brand with a real Indian service path before you multiply it by four.
